About the opportunity
The Q-PLANET project is an EU-funded initiative aimed at establishing a European pilot line for quantum applications and state-of-the-art quantum devices integrated into neutral atom quantum applications. DTU Nanolab, a major partner in the 30-partner consortium, focuses on Photonic Integrated Circuits (PIC) fabrication and packaging. We are seeking up to four engineers to join our team to help develop and establish a Process and Assembly Design Kit (PDK/ADK). Three engineers will primarily focus on packaging, and one will focus on device fabrication. Successful candidates will work in an international environment with state-of-the-art semiconductor equipment at one of Europe’s leading elite technical universities.
Salary and benefits
- Competitive salary based on the collective agreement with the Danish Confederation of Professional Associations (AC)
- Opportunity to negotiate additional supplements in accordance with DTU’s salary structure for academic staff (AC TAP)
- Employment in an international, inclusive, and stimulating work environment at a leading technical university
Who can apply?
- Master's or PhD degree in engineering, physics, or a similar technically relevant background
- For clean room/fabrication engineer: basic fabrication skills including dry etching (experience with SiN and TFLN preferred), thin film deposition (thermal, E-beam, PECVD, ALD, etc.), lithography (E-Beam, UV, DUV), and characterization (Ellipsometry, SEM, AFM, PL, etc.)
- For packaging engineers: advanced dicing techniques including edge polishing, chip bonding (wire and flip chip), fiber array packaging, and optical/electrical characterization besides AFM and SEM
- High communication and coordination skills
- Ability to work independently on given tasks
- Commitment to systematically report and document process development results
- Fluency in English

Our Take on This Opportunity
This section reflects Open Opportunities’ own analysis of the opportunity from an applicant’s perspective.
You may be a strong fit if…
- Engineers with a background in physics or nanotechnology, specifically in cleanroom fabrication or device packaging.
- Professionals with hands-on experience in lithography, thin film deposition, or advanced dicing and bonding techniques.
- Individuals who thrive in international, collaborative environments working on cutting-edge quantum technology.
What should you think carefully about?
- This is an on-site role at DTU Nanolab in Kgs. Lyngby, Denmark.
- The work is part of a large EU-funded consortium, requiring a high level of coordination and systematic documentation of results.
- Candidates should be prepared for potential background checks due to the nature of the critical technology involved.
How could this fit your current goals and plans?
These positions offer a unique opportunity to contribute to a European pilot line for quantum applications. It is an excellent goal for engineers looking to gain experience in state-of-the-art semiconductor equipment and contribute to the development of next-generation quantum devices.
Our take
Engineers with specialized cleanroom or packaging skills should consider this. It is less suitable for those without the specific technical fabrication or packaging experience requested.
