About the opportunity
This position is part of the WindConnect European Doctoral Network, which unites 15 PhD researchers across leading European institutions and industry partners. You will join the Renewable Power Plants (RPP) section at DTU Wind and Energy Systems to develop an innovative, technology-agnostic control architecture for hybrid power plants. The work combines advanced modeling with hands-on experimental validation in close collaboration with European Energy, utilizing MW-scale hybrid power plant testbeds. The project addresses key challenges in coordinating multi-vendor assets, reducing communication overhead, and enhancing the reliability of future power systems.
Salary and benefits
- Fully funded 3-year PhD position based on the collective agreement with the Danish Confederation of Professional Associations
- Co-supervision by experienced researchers and collaboration with European Energy and other European industry partners
- 6 to 9 months of research stays at partner institutions across the WindConnect network
- Technical and transferable-skills training, leadership training, and international conference participation
- Access to unique MW-scale hybrid power plant research facilities and experimental infrastructure
Who can apply?
- Hold a two-year master's degree (120 ECTS or equivalent) in electrical engineering, power system engineering, control engineering, or a related field
- Must not hold a doctoral degree at the time of recruitment
- Have less than four years of full-time equivalent research experience after obtaining the degree qualifying for PhD studies
- Must not have resided or carried out main activities (work or studies) in Denmark for more than 12 months during the 36 months immediately preceding recruitment
- Sound fundamentals in power-system dynamics and control, with an understanding of converter-interfaced generation and storage
- Experience with dynamic modeling and simulation using tools such as MATLAB/Simulink, Python, or DIgSILENT PowerFactory
Required documents
- Cover letter motivating the application
- Curriculum vitae (CV)
- Grade transcripts and BSc/MSc diploma in English, including official grading scale descriptions
- A 1-page research statement including figures and references (maximum 500 words)
