About the opportunity
The NASA Ames Research Center Office of STEM Engagement (OSTEM) is seeking an intern interested in gaining a unique, center-wide perspective on NASA’s research, people, facilities, and mission while helping create meaningful STEM engagement experiences for students and mentors. Unlike an internship focused on a single research discipline, this opportunity provides exposure to diverse science, technology, engineering, education, and mission-support activities at NASA Ames. The intern will help coordinate behind-the-scenes tours, learning experiences, and events, while assisting with scheduling, logistics, and communicating with participants. Depending on the intern’s interests and academic background, activities may include developing educational content, translating technical information for student audiences, and supporting outreach that highlights various career pathways at NASA.

Our Take on This Opportunity
This section reflects Open Opportunities’ own analysis of the opportunity from an applicant’s perspective.
You may be a strong fit if…
- An ideal opportunity for undergraduate or graduate students who want broad exposure to aerospace research administration and science education rather than working in a single isolated laboratory.
- Well-suited for students in communications, education, business, or public relations who want to apply non-STEM skills directly to a prominent space agency mission.
- Great for future educators or program managers looking to build practical event-coordination and science-translation skills.
What should you think carefully about?
- The internship is fully on-site at Moffett Field, California, requiring local residence or independent relocation arrangements.
- Citizenship is strictly limited to U.S. citizens only.
- Part-time or full-time schedules must be balanced against active coursework commitments during the Spring 2027 academic session.
How could this fit your current goals and plans?
This internship serves as an excellent stepping stone for students aiming to transition into public sector careers, science communication, education management, or aerospace administration. It provides a structured environment to build a strong federal professional network and gain resume-worthy project coordination experience.
Our take
Students with a passion for space exploration and education outreach who meet the U.S. citizenship requirement and can commit to an on-site schedule in California should seriously consider applying before the September 2026 deadline.
