Our Take on This Opportunity

This section reflects Open Opportunities’ own analysis of the opportunity from an applicant’s perspective.

You may be a strong fit if…

  • Early-career researchers holding a PhD in physics with direct hands-on expertise in atomic-resolution microscopy and Python programming.
  • Postdocs looking to bolster their academic resume with formal university teaching, co-teaching of Python, and student supervision experience.
  • Researchers eager to collaborate within an internationally recognized group focusing on 2D materials and advanced electron spectroscopy.

What should you think carefully about?

  • The role is a fixed-term maternity leave substitution ending on April 8, 2027, offering limited long-term job security without a guarantee of extension.
  • Applicants must be prepared to relocate to Vienna, Austria, and handle on-site responsibilities alongside hybrid flexibility options.
  • Teaching obligations and student supervision are core components of the role alongside research tasks.

How could this fit your current goals and plans?

This position offers a strong stepping stone for postdoctoral researchers aiming to consolidate their academic profile through high-level research publications, mentorship experience, and university-level teaching credits over a short, intensive period.

Our take

This position is well-suited for qualified postdoctoral physicists seeking immediate academic integration and publication opportunities in a premier European research group, though its short, substitute-based duration requires candidates to plan their next career steps concurrently.
