About the opportunity
The Globe Institute at the University of Copenhagen invites applications for a tenure track assistant professorship based at the Centre for Star and Planet Formation (StarPlan). This role focuses on high-pressure and high-temperature processes during planet formation, specifically investigating how planetary interiors, magma oceans, and early atmospheres interact. The successful candidate will establish an independent research program, contribute to developing a new high-pressure experimental preparation laboratory, and engage in research-based teaching and supervision at the BSc, MSc, and PhD levels. The position is a tenure track appointment, with an evaluation process leading to a potential associate professorship within six years.

Our Take on This Opportunity
This section reflects Open Opportunities’ own analysis of the opportunity from an applicant’s perspective.
You may be a strong fit if…
- Researchers with a background in high-pressure experimental techniques like diamond anvil cells or synchrotron X-ray diffraction
- Early-career academics looking to establish an independent research program within a world-class planetary science center
- Candidates with a strong interest in interdisciplinary collaboration across geology, geochemistry, and astrophysics
What should you think carefully about?
- The role requires a significant commitment to both independent research and teaching/supervision at multiple academic levels
- The tenure track process involves rigorous annual evaluations and a mid-track appraisal over a six-year period
- Applicants should be prepared to relocate to Copenhagen, Denmark, if not already based there
How could this fit your current goals and plans?
This position is ideal for an ambitious researcher aiming to secure a long-term academic career in Europe. It provides the resources and institutional support to build a specialized laboratory and research group, making it a perfect stepping stone for someone transitioning from a postdoctoral role to a permanent faculty position in the field of planetary materials science.
Our take
This is an excellent opportunity for highly qualified planetary scientists with a focus on experimental methods. It is best suited for those who are ready to lead their own research agenda and contribute to the academic community at a top-tier university. Candidates without a strong experimental background or those not interested in teaching may find this role less suitable.
