Postdoc in Predictive Human Digital Twins for Human-Centred Systems Engineering at DTU Construct

DTU Construct

Published on October 30, 2026

LocationDenmark DeadlineDecember 1, 2026 · OPEN Job typeFull-time International applicantsYes

About the opportunity

If you hold a PhD and want to take the next step towards an independent research career at the intersection of biomechanics, artificial intelligence, and systems engineering, this position lets you help shape a new research group from the start. At DTU Construct, you will drive the development of Digital Twin Couples—coupled digital twins of humans and technical systems that predict how a specific person will interact with a product, an assistive device, or a robot. This enables designs to be evaluated and optimised before physical prototypes are built. The project is part of building up a new research group in Human-Centred Design within the Human-Centred Systems Engineering activities at DTU Construct, including a living lab for studying human-technology interaction under everyday conditions.

Salary and benefits

  • Fully funded 3-year full-time appointment based on the collective agreement with the Danish Confederation of Professional Associations
  • Opportunity to shape a new research group and living lab from the start
  • Participation in an international academic environment characterized by collegial respect and academic freedom
  • Involvement in teaching, student co-supervision, junior researcher mentoring, and leading journals publication

Who can apply?

  • Must hold a PhD degree (or equivalent) in Biomedical or Mechanical Engineering, Robotics, Computer Science, Engineering Design, or a related field
  • Must have a publication record in musculoskeletal modelling, human movement simulation, or a closely related field
  • Must possess strong programming skills and hands-on experience with OpenSim, AnyBody, SCONE, or comparable tools
  • Must have experience with co-simulation, predictive simulation, design optimisation, or hybrid machine learning
  • Must have experience with experimental movement studies such as motion capture, wearable sensors, and EMG
  • Must have excellent communication skills in English and the ability to work with initiative and independence

Required documents

  • A letter motivating the application (cover letter)
  • Curriculum vitae
  • Academic diplomas for both MSc and PhD in English
  • List of publications
  • A research statement of a maximum of 2 pages outlining your research experience and contribution plan
  • Contact details of two references

When to apply

  • Application deadline is 1 December 2026 at 23:59 Danish time
  • Starting date is 1 March 2027 or according to mutual agreement

How to apply

Our Take on This Opportunity

This section reflects Open Opportunities’ own analysis of the opportunity from an applicant’s perspective.

You may be a strong fit if…

  • Early-career researchers holding a PhD who specialize in biomechanics, robotics, computer science, or musculoskeletal modelling
  • Candidates with hands-on technical proficiency in tools like OpenSim, AnyBody, or SCONE and experience in experimental movement studies
  • Scholars looking to establish an independent research profile by helping build a brand-new lab and research group from inception

What should you think carefully about?

  • The appointment is fixed-term for a duration of 3 years
  • Relocation to Denmark is required as the position is on-site at DTU Construct
  • Open-source background checks may apply due to critical technology research security rules

How could this fit your current goals and plans?

This three-year postdoctoral fellowship is well-suited for researchers aiming to transition from doctoral studies to an independent academic or high-level industrial research career. It offers a structured environment to publish in leading journals, supervise students, and establish a founding role in an emerging research group.

Our take

Highly recommended for ambitious postdoctoral researchers with a strong background in computational modelling and human-technology interaction. Candidates who prefer permanent positions or are unable to relocate to Denmark may find this fixed-term opportunity less suitable.
