Our Take on This Opportunity

This section reflects Open Opportunities’ own analysis of the opportunity from an applicant’s perspective.

You may be a strong fit if…

  • An ideal match for early-career researchers with a background in computer science, HCI, data science, STS, or law who want to bridge technical development and European regulatory policy.
  • Strong fit for candidates who value structured international mobility, interdisciplinary collaboration, and intersectoral engagement with regulators and standardisation bodies.
  • Well-suited for applicants seeking a fully funded, stable 3-year doctoral appointment within a leading European research section.

What should you think carefully about?

  • Applicants must carefully review the Marie Skłodowska-Curie mobility rule restricting prior residence in Denmark to no more than 12 months over the past 3 years.
  • The required research statement demands a concrete, independent research direction and methodology tailored to technology governance.
  • Relocation to Copenhagen for on-site employment is required for the duration of the 3-year appointment, alongside mandatory international secondments.

How could this fit your current goals and plans?

This fellowship serves as an excellent launchpad for an academic career or a specialised policy/industry path in AI governance, sociotechnical research, and digital regulation. It provides deep empirical fieldwork experience combined with elite network training across Europe.

Our take

Candidates with a strong quantitative or qualitative background interested in the societal impacts of AI and digital regulation should seriously consider applying. Those who prefer solitary desk research or who fail to meet the strict MSCA transnational mobility rule should look elsewhere.
