Our Take on This Opportunity
This section reflects Open Opportunities’ own analysis of the opportunity from an applicant’s perspective.
You may be a strong fit if…
- Professionals with direct, hands-on experience in U.S. submarine combat systems, particularly AN/BYG-1 and SWFTS integration
- Engineers or scientists currently at the GS-13/ND-04 level looking for a high-impact, international assignment within the U.S. Navy acquisition framework
- Candidates who thrive in complex, multi-stakeholder environments involving requirements development and technical design for major defense platforms
What should you think carefully about?
- The role is a fixed 36-month appointment, which may not suit those seeking permanent federal career placement
- Strict conditions of employment require obtaining specific DAWIA and CWF certifications within set timeframes; failure to do so can lead to termination
- The position is based in Bristol, UK, and applicants should carefully review the specific relocation and living conditions for this overseas assignment
- The resume is strictly limited to two pages, requiring concise and targeted articulation of relevant experience
How could this fit your current goals and plans?
This role is ideal for a mid-to-senior level technical professional aiming to gain specialized experience in international defense acquisition and submarine combat systems. It offers a unique opportunity to work on the SSN AUKUS program, providing significant exposure to high-level systems engineering and project management within a global context. For those already in the federal system, it serves as a high-visibility assignment that can broaden one's technical and programmatic portfolio.
Our take
This is a highly specialized role for experienced engineers or scientists with a background in submarine combat systems. It is best suited for individuals who are prepared to meet rigorous certification requirements and are interested in a three-year international deployment. Candidates without the specific specialized experience in AN/BYG-1 and SWFTS systems are unlikely to be competitive.
