Our Take on This Opportunity

This section reflects Open Opportunities’ own analysis of the opportunity from an applicant’s perspective.

You may be a strong fit if…

  • Professionals with a background in migration studies or economics who have direct experience in project management within the African context
  • Candidates who possess strong analytical and drafting skills, particularly in the areas of labour rights and project reporting
  • Individuals who are comfortable working in a collaborative, multi-agency environment involving the African Union and UN partners

What should you think carefully about?

  • This is a fixed-term, 12-month contract without an inherent expectation of long-term career progression within the ILO
  • The role requires proficiency in both English and Amharic, which is a specific linguistic requirement for this duty station
  • The position is subject to local recruitment criteria, which may limit the applicant pool compared to international professional roles

How could this fit your current goals and plans?

This role is an excellent opportunity for a mid-career professional to gain high-level experience in international development and labour migration policy. It provides a platform to work directly with the African Union and major international organizations, which can significantly enhance a profile for future roles in the UN system, international NGOs, or governmental policy departments.

Our take

This position is highly suitable for experienced project coordinators with a strong interest in labour migration and regional development in Africa. Candidates who meet the specific language requirements and have a proven track record in project implementation should apply before the November deadline.
