About the opportunity
The Yale Teaching Fellowship is a partnership between Yale University, New Haven Public Schools, New Haven Promise, and Southern Connecticut State University (SCSU) designed to train high-quality educators and address teacher shortages. The program offers two tracks: the Teacher Pipeline Track for college graduates, which provides a two-year Master of Arts in Teaching, teacher certification, and a first-year living stipend; and the Current Teachers Track, which provides certified teachers with a route to special education cross-endorsement and a Master of Science. Both tracks cover full tuition. In exchange, fellows commit to teaching in New Haven Public Schools for at least three years after completing their degree.

Our Take on This Opportunity
This section reflects Open Opportunities’ own analysis of the opportunity from an applicant’s perspective.
You may be a strong fit if…
- College graduates seeking a structured pathway into the teaching profession.
- Current New Haven Public Schools paraprofessionals or support staff looking to advance their careers.
- Individuals committed to serving in district-identified shortage areas like Math, Science, or Special Education.
What should you think carefully about?
- Requires a firm three-year teaching commitment in New Haven Public Schools following degree completion.
- The stipend is provided only for the first year of the Teacher Pipeline Track.
- Applicants should verify if their specific undergraduate degree aligns with the licensure requirements for the desired teaching area.
How could this fit your current goals and plans?
This fellowship is an excellent vehicle for those aiming to transition into education while minimizing financial barriers. By covering full tuition for a Master's degree and providing a living stipend, it allows participants to focus on gaining certification and classroom experience without the immediate burden of graduate school debt, provided they are prepared for the multi-year service commitment.
Our take
This is a strong opportunity for aspiring educators dedicated to the New Haven community, though it is less suitable for those seeking flexibility in their post-graduation career location.
