Our Take on This Opportunity

This section reflects Open Opportunities’ own analysis of the opportunity from an applicant’s perspective.

You may be a strong fit if…

  • You have extensive international experience (7+ years) managing immunization programs (EPI) in low- or middle-income countries, particularly in sub-Saharan Africa.
  • You possess expert-level fluency in both English and Portuguese, enabling seamless communication with local health authorities and international partners.
  • You have a strong background in public health, epidemiology, or medicine, combined with practical experience in Gavi grant management and primary health care integration.

What should you think carefully about?

  • This is a temporary one-year contract, which may not offer immediate long-term career stability unless extended or transitioned.
  • The role requires relocation to Luanda, Angola, and frequent domestic travel, which demands adaptability to local conditions and health requirements.
  • Geographical mobility is a core condition of WHO international professional employment, meaning future global reassignments are possible.

How could this fit your current goals and plans?

This role is an excellent fit for mid-to-senior public health professionals aiming to deepen their field experience within a major UN agency. It offers a high-impact opportunity to lead the operationalization of a national immunization strategy, manage significant Gavi grants, and build sustainable capacity in a sub-Saharan African context, significantly boosting one's global health credentials.

Our take

Highly qualified public health experts with strong Portuguese and English skills and extensive EPI experience in Africa should seriously consider applying. It is less suitable for those seeking immediate permanent contracts or those unable to meet the strict language and travel requirements.
