About the opportunity
The Institute of Mechanical and Electrical Engineering at the University of Southern Denmark (SDU) invites applications for a 2-year Postdoctoral Researcher position within the newly funded QUANTRONIC – Spintronic Pseudo-Qubits for Room-Temperature Quantum Computing project, supported by the Villum Experiment programme of Villum Fonden. The project investigates whether engineered stochastic spintronic devices can reproduce key computational mechanisms associated with quantum systems—such as superposition-like states, probability-amplitude-based interference, and entanglement-like correlations—without fragile quantum coherence or cryogenic operation. The successful candidate will work within SDU Microelectronics, collaborate closely with international partners such as INL – International Iberian Nanotechnology Laboratory, and engage in device design, physics-based modelling, experimental characterization, and system-level demonstrations.

Our Take on This Opportunity
This section reflects Open Opportunities’ own analysis of the opportunity from an applicant’s perspective.
You may be a strong fit if…
- A strong fit for recent PhD graduates in electronic engineering, applied physics, or spintronics who want to advance frontier hardware research at the intersection of probabilistic and quantum-inspired computing.
- Ideal for researchers with practical experience in Verilog-A, Cadence, micromagnetic simulations, or magnetotransport measurements who thrive in interdisciplinary academic teams.
- Well-suited for candidates seeking international exposure through close research collaborations with institutions like INL in Portugal.
What should you think carefully about?
- The position is a fixed two-year contract, so longer-term funding security depends on future project extensions.
- Relocation to Odense, Denmark, is required as the work is hosted on-site at the University of Southern Denmark.
- The competitive application process involves shortlisting, and only shortlisted candidates receive a written assessment.
How could this fit your current goals and plans?
This two-year postdoctoral position provides an intensive platform to build a specialized academic and technical profile in emerging quantum-inspired hardware architectures. It suits researchers aiming to generate high-impact journal publications, lead experimental device demonstrations, and establish an independent research career in semiconductor innovation and nanoelectronics.
Our take
Early-career researchers with a strong background in spintronics, microelectronics, or device modelling should seriously consider applying before the November 2026 deadline. Candidates without a relevant engineering or physics PhD or those seeking permanent placement from day one will find this fixed-term research role less suitable.
