Our Take on This Opportunity

This section reflects Open Opportunities’ own analysis of the opportunity from an applicant’s perspective.

You may be a strong fit if…

  • Professionals with a background in renewable energy or climate policy who have experience navigating the Mauritian government and regulatory landscape.
  • Experienced project managers who are comfortable with the National Implementation Modality (NIM) and managing multi-stakeholder environmental projects.
  • Candidates who possess strong financial management and reporting skills, particularly those familiar with UN or GCF reporting requirements.

What should you think carefully about?

  • This is a fixed-term, project-based role; while there is a possibility of extension, it is tied to the project's funding and operational lifecycle.
  • The role requires significant coordination with multiple government ministries and agencies, which may involve complex stakeholder management.
  • Applicants must be prepared for a rigorous vetting process, including background and reference checks, as is standard for UN positions.

How could this fit your current goals and plans?

This role is an excellent opportunity for a mid-to-senior level professional to take a leadership position in a high-profile climate project. It offers the chance to directly influence national energy policy and infrastructure in Mauritius, providing significant experience in international development and climate finance that would be highly valuable for future roles within the UN system, international NGOs, or the public sector.

Our take

This position is ideal for experienced project managers with a strong background in environmental science or engineering who are looking to make a tangible impact on Mauritius's energy transition. It is less suitable for those without prior experience in project management or those who are not familiar with the specific requirements of working within the UN development framework.
