About the opportunity

The Garcia group at the Institute of Biotechnology, University of Helsinki, is seeking a highly motivated Postdoctoral Researcher for a two-year position to investigate how toxic, repeat-bearing RNAs disrupt cellular energy metabolism and drive progressive dysfunction in neurodegenerative and neuromuscular disorders such as ALS and myotonic dystrophy. The successful candidate will conduct original research using Caenorhabditis elegans and mammalian cell systems, combining genetic, molecular, and physiological approaches to dissect the pathways underlying early metabolomic disruptions. The Institute provides state-of-the-art research infrastructures, advanced imaging and transcriptomic facilities, and a vibrant, international scientific community. The researcher will have the opportunity to develop an independent research profile, collaborate with international partners, contribute to high-impact publications, and receive mentorship and active support for external fellowship applications.

Salary and benefits

  • Gross monthly salary range of 3,736 to 3,837 EUR, following the Finnish university salary system requirement level 5 with an added personal performance component.
  • Mentoring and active support for applications to independent postdoctoral fellowships and external funding opportunities.
  • Comprehensive occupational healthcare services.
  • Subsidized lunch at campus dining facilities.
  • Generous holiday bonus and functioning parental leave system.
  • Relocation support provided by International Staff Services, including assistance with residence permits, schooling, and daycare.
