About the opportunity
As part of the Centre for Quantum Communication Networks and Applications, one PhD stipend is available at the Department of Mathematical Sciences. The position will be tied to a work package related to multiparty computation in quantum networks. The successful candidate will contribute to developing new cryptographic network protocols based on quantum resources, with a focus on secure multiparty computation protocols where participants have access to quantum resources like entanglement. The duration of the position is three years, open for appointment from 1st November 2026 or soon hereafter. During the PhD studies, the candidate is expected to perform teaching tasks, complete PhD courses corresponding to 30 ECTS, and complete an external research stay outside of Aalborg University.

Our Take on This Opportunity
This section reflects Open Opportunities’ own analysis of the opportunity from an applicant’s perspective.
You may be a strong fit if…
- You possess a strong background in quantum networks, quantum information, or cryptography.
- You have solid mathematical skills and the ability to formally analyze abstract systems.
- You are comfortable with a three-year commitment to on-site research and teaching in Denmark.
What should you think carefully about?
- The position requires an external research stay, which necessitates planning for temporary relocation during your studies.
- There is a three-month mutual probationary period to consider at the start of the appointment.
- You must be prepared to balance independent research with mandatory teaching duties and 30 ECTS of coursework.
How could this fit your current goals and plans?
This fully-funded PhD is an excellent opportunity for a researcher aiming to specialize in the intersection of quantum resources and secure multiparty computation. It provides a structured environment to develop new cryptographic protocols while gaining essential academic experience through teaching and international research collaboration.
Our take
Candidates with a rigorous mathematical foundation and a specific interest in quantum-based cryptography should apply, while those preferring purely theoretical work without teaching obligations may find the structure less suitable.
