About the opportunity

The Department of Electronic Systems at Aalborg University is offering a 24-month postdoctoral position in Resilient Satellite Networks with Classical and Quantum Communications starting February 1, 2027, or as soon as possible thereafter. The postdoc will join the Connectivity Section and work within the Satellites and Space Communications research group and the CLASSIQUE Center of Excellence, funded by Villum Fonden (STATSAT project) and the Danish National Research Foundation (CLASSIQUE). The researcher will formulate techniques to model integrated satellite and terrestrial networks as dynamic graphs, evaluate link establishment, matching, and routing algorithms with graph neural networks, and develop distribution-free reliability guarantees using conformal prediction across classical and quantum communication links.

Salary and benefits

  • Full-time academic employment for 24 months starting February 1, 2027, or shortly thereafter
  • Salary and terms established under the Danish state collective agreement for academic staff (AC collective agreement)
  • Pension contributions according to the academic staff collective agreement
  • Free Danish language courses offered as part of employment to aid social and professional integration
  • Access to research infrastructure and lab facilities at the Department of Electronic Systems

Who can apply?

  • Hold a PhD degree in electrical engineering, telecommunications, statistics, information theory, applied mathematics, data science, or a closely related field
  • Demonstrated experience publishing research in recognized international peer-reviewed journals and conferences
  • Competence in information- and communication-theoretic modeling, programming, probability, statistics, and artificial intelligence
  • Familiarity with at least one domain among wireless communications, graph theory, applied mathematics, statistics, and AI (knowledge of satellite networks and quantum communications is advantageous but not mandatory)
  • English language proficiency at CEFR C1 level or above for both scientific writing and professional collaboration

Required documents

  • Application letter detailing reasons for applying, qualifications relative to the post, and intentions and research visions for the role
  • Comprehensive Curriculum Vitae (CV)
  • Master's degree diploma and PhD diploma
  • Complete list of publications, indicating up to five attached publications selected for formal assessment
  • Up to five selected publications attached for evaluation
  • Documentation of teaching qualifications, if applicable
  • Documentation of dissemination activities, such as service on committees, boards, or professional organizations
  • References and letters of recommendation

When to apply

  • Application deadline: November 16, 2026
  • Expected appointment start date: February 1, 2027, or as soon as possible thereafter

How to apply

  • Access Aalborg University's recruitment portal via the online job advertisement
  • Upload the application letter, CV, academic diplomas, up to five representative publications, publication list, dissemination records, and references before the deadline
  • Undergo the university's academic shortlisting and peer assessment committee evaluation, which may also include a standard risk assessment

Additional information

  • Position reference number: 2026/1249
  • The position is based at the Department of Electronic Systems on the Aalborg campus

Our Take on This Opportunity

This section reflects Open Opportunities’ own analysis of the opportunity from an applicant’s perspective.

You may be a strong fit if…

  • Researchers with a strong theoretical background in graph theory, statistics, or information theory who want to bridge analytical models with graph neural networks and AI algorithms.
  • Postdoctoral candidates eager to contribute to high-visibility interdisciplinary initiatives spanning both satellite networking (STATSAT) and quantum communications (CLASSIQUE).
  • Scholars with demonstrable publication records in wireless systems or applied mathematics looking to build a research portfolio in emerging non-terrestrial and quantum network resilience.

What should you think carefully about?

  • The appointment is strictly fixed-term for 24 months, requiring candidates to plan their next career stage early during the tenure.
  • Daily work requires on-site presence in Aalborg, Denmark, necessitating international relocation for applicants living outside the area.
  • While quantum communications experience is explicitly not mandatory, the position relies on mathematical abstraction and advanced probabilistic guarantees such as conformal prediction.

How could this fit your current goals and plans?

This position is an excellent stepping stone for researchers aiming to establish an independent academic or high-tech industrial research profile in advanced telecommunications. By working across two funded flagship centers—STATSAT and the CLASSIQUE Center of Excellence—the appointed postdoc will gain specialized expertise in both classical satellite networks and quantum communication protocols, two fields central to next-generation (6G and beyond) space connectivity.

Our take

This opportunity is strongly recommended for early-career PhD holders in electrical engineering, computer science, or applied mathematics with solid publication records who want to work on mathematical modeling and machine learning for satellite and quantum networks. It is less suitable for researchers seeking an open-ended faculty role or those focused strictly on experimental hardware implementation.
