Working under the overall authority of the Head of the UNESCO Tashkent Office and direct supervision of the Education Programme Specialist, the consultant will facilitate inter-agency coordination, design a green school pilot framework, and conduct periodic monitoring to track progress across the five priority action areas of the ESD for 2030 framework.

  • Familiarity with Education for Sustainable Development, climate change education, greening education, or related agendas, alongside knowledge of the national education reform context.
  • Excellent command of written and spoken Uzbek (working language), good command of English (reporting and summaries), and knowledge of Russian as an asset.

Our Take on This Opportunity

This section reflects Open Opportunities’ own analysis of the opportunity from an applicant’s perspective.

You may be a strong fit if…

  • A strong fit for senior education professionals or policy experts with extensive experience working alongside government bodies in Uzbekistan.
  • Ideal for candidates who possess specific expertise in Education for Sustainable Development, environmental policies, or institutional reform.
  • Well-suited for professionals looking for a flexible, part-time consultancy assignment with a major United Nations agency.

What should you think carefully about?

  • The assignment requires living or being based locally to operate effectively within Tashkent and coordinate directly with national ministries.
  • Fluency in written and spoken Uzbek is essential, alongside strong English reporting capabilities.
  • The position is structured as a part-time, fixed-term consultancy contract spanning 60 working days over eight months rather than a permanent staff post.

How could this fit your current goals and plans?

This consultancy offers a high-impact opportunity for education and sustainability experts to directly shape national policy execution in Uzbekistan. It allows mid-to-senior professionals to leverage their stakeholder engagement and advisory skills within an international framework, building valuable credentials in UN-led educational reform.

Our take

Experienced education and sustainable development professionals based in Uzbekistan with a robust background in inter-agency coordination should seriously consider applying. Those lacking senior-level government liaison experience or proficiency in Uzbek will find the role less suitable.
