Our Take on This Opportunity

This section reflects Open Opportunities’ own analysis of the opportunity from an applicant’s perspective.

You may be a strong fit if…

  • Senior professionals possessing an advanced university degree in agriculture, forestry, fishery, rural development, or a closely related field.
  • Candidates with at least ten years of relevant experience in planning, formulating, implementing, monitoring, and evaluating field programmes.
  • Individuals who have a working knowledge (proficiency level C) of both French and English and are not nationals of Cabo Verde.
  • Leaders interested in managing country programmes, building partnerships, and directing food security initiatives on-site in Praia.

What should you think carefully about?

  • Applicants must be comfortable with an on-site assignment located in Praia, Cabo Verde, and verify specific relocation requirements if moving internationally.
  • The appointment is initially structured as a fixed-term staff contract for two years, meaning employment duration beyond this period depends on extensions.
  • Candidates must ensure they meet the specific language proficiency requirements in both French and English before submitting their online profile and letter of motivation.

How could this fit your current goals and plans?

This senior-level opportunity is well-suited for experienced international development professionals looking to lead high-level country programmes and resource mobilization efforts within the United Nations system. It offers a structured two-year platform to direct sustainable agricultural, fisheries, and forestry initiatives, expand multilateral governance experience, and contribute directly to national food security policies in Cabo Verde.

Our take

Senior development practitioners with extensive field programme experience and bilingual proficiency in French and English should seriously consider applying before the September 2026 deadline, while candidates who lack the ten-year experience threshold or proficiency in both required languages will find it less suitable.
