Our Take on This Opportunity
This section reflects Open Opportunities’ own analysis of the opportunity from an applicant’s perspective.
You may be a strong fit if…
- Early-career professionals, researchers, or recent secondary/university graduates looking to gain hands-on experience within the UN system.
- Individuals with a strong personal commitment to international development, agriculture, food security, and the UN Sustainable Development Goals.
- Candidates possessing relevant work or research experience in domains related to FAO's mandate who are comfortable operating in multicultural settings.
What should you think carefully about?
- The position is unpaid, meaning participants must secure their own financial means to cover living expenses during the assignment.
- Volunteers must already hold the appropriate legal residence or immigration status in the proposed duty station prior to joining.
- The maximum duration of 6 months represents a short-term engagement rather than a long-term employment contract.
How could this fit your current goals and plans?
This volunteer programme is well-suited for individuals seeking to build foundational international organization experience, network with global development experts, and contribute meaningfully to African food security initiatives without requiring an immediate long-term career commitment to the UN.
Our take
Applicants who possess independent financial backing or personal support and wish to gain invaluable frontline experience within the United Nations should seriously consider applying before the end of the year. Candidates requiring financial compensation or a permanent job should look elsewhere.
