About the opportunity
The section of Digital and High-Frequency Electronics at the University of Southern Denmark is seeking an Assistant Professor to conduct research on energy harvesting for drones, robotic systems, and IoT applications. The role focuses on enhancing power density for autonomous operation and addressing electromagnetic interference (EMI) and compatibility (EMC) in extreme high-voltage environments (up to 500 kV). The successful candidate will develop a research agenda, publish in high-impact journals, secure external funding, and collaborate with industrial partners. Teaching responsibilities include developing and delivering Bachelor’s and Master’s-level courses in electronics and electrical engineering, as well as supervising students at the Bachelor, Master, and PhD levels.

Our Take on This Opportunity
This section reflects Open Opportunities’ own analysis of the opportunity from an applicant’s perspective.
You may be a strong fit if…
- Researchers with a specialized background in high-voltage EMI mitigation and drone systems will find this role highly aligned with their expertise.
- Candidates who have already demonstrated success in securing external research funding as a principal investigator or key contributor.
- Academics looking to transition into a growing, interdisciplinary department with a clear expansion plan for the next few years.
What should you think carefully about?
- This is a fixed-term 3-year appointment, which requires careful planning for long-term career stability beyond the initial contract.
- The role involves a significant commitment to both high-level research and teaching/supervision, requiring a balance between these two core responsibilities.
- Applicants should be prepared for a rigorous assessment process that may include interviews and tests, as well as potential background checks.
How could this fit your current goals and plans?
This position is an excellent opportunity for an early-career researcher to establish an independent research profile within a well-regarded Danish university. It provides the necessary infrastructure and collaborative environment to build a research team, gain pedagogical experience through the mandatory Lecturer Training Programme, and expand one's international network through industrial and academic partnerships.
Our take
This role is ideal for PhD holders in electrical or power electronics engineering who are ready to lead research in drone and high-voltage technologies. It is less suitable for those seeking permanent tenure-track positions immediately or those who prefer to focus exclusively on research without significant teaching and administrative duties.
