About the opportunity
The Leon Levy Scholarships in Neuroscience (LLSN) program aims to promote groundbreaking neuroscience research in the five boroughs of New York City. The program seeks to cultivate excellence and innovation in a diverse neuroscience workforce, provide enhanced research autonomy, help Scholars develop professional skills such as grant writing and neuroethics, and build an engaged alumni community.

Our Take on This Opportunity
This section reflects Open Opportunities’ own analysis of the opportunity from an applicant’s perspective.
You may be a strong fit if…
- Early-career neuroscientists with less than three years of postdoctoral experience.
- Researchers affiliated with accredited non-profit institutions in New York City.
- Scholars seeking structured mentorship, grant writing support, and a collaborative alumni network.
What should you think carefully about?
- The scholarship requires a 100% time commitment to the research proposal, with limited exceptions for clinical work.
- Applicants must secure agreement from a research advisor before applying.
- The program is highly competitive and requires a comprehensive research and career development plan.
How could this fit your current goals and plans?
This scholarship is designed to propel postdoctoral researchers toward independence. It provides the financial autonomy and professional development necessary to establish a strong foundation for a long-term career in neuroscience research.
Our take
This is a premier opportunity for innovative neuroscientists in NYC. It is less suitable for those who cannot commit to the full three-year tenure or those whose research does not align with the program's focus.
