Our Take on This Opportunity

This section reflects Open Opportunities’ own analysis of the opportunity from an applicant’s perspective.

You may be a strong fit if…

  • Public health professionals with at least 5 years of experience in disease investigation, surveillance, and strategy development.
  • Candidates with expert knowledge of Portuguese, which is essential for this role in Angola.
  • Individuals with experience working with ministries of health, UN agencies, or international NGOs.

What should you think carefully about?

  • This is a 1-year temporary appointment, which may not be ideal for those seeking a long-term career position.
  • The role requires a high level of coordination and multi-sectoral strategy development, which can be complex in a temporary capacity.
  • Applicants must be non-smokers and meet WHO vaccination requirements, such as for yellow fever.
  • Candidates should verify the impact of mandatory pension and health insurance deductions on the base salary.

How could this fit your current goals and plans?

This role is ideal for a public health leader aiming to gain significant experience in coordinating large-scale disease control strategies. It provides a platform to work directly with national counterparts and international partners, which is a valuable step for anyone looking to advance into senior leadership roles within global health organizations.

Our take

This is a vital role for an experienced public health leader fluent in Portuguese; it is less suitable for those who cannot commit to a one-year temporary contract or who lack the required experience in communicable disease strategy.
