Our Take on This Opportunity

This section reflects Open Opportunities’ own analysis of the opportunity from an applicant’s perspective.

You may be a strong fit if…

  • An ideal match for recent master's graduates in biomedical engineering, computer science, or data science seeking to bridge technical innovation with clinical healthcare practice.
  • Well-suited for professionals eager to gain hands-on experience in machine learning applications for preventive medicine and digital health.
  • Strong fit for individuals with advanced Dutch language proficiency who thrive in multidisciplinary, fast-paced clinical environments.

What should you think carefully about?

  • The position requires a two-year commitment combining rigorous academic coursework with intensive practical project work.
  • A high level of fluency in Dutch (C1/C2) is mandatory, which may limit international applicants without this specific language proficiency.
  • Relocation to the Eindhoven or Amsterdam area in the Netherlands is necessary to fulfill on-site duties at the university and healthcare partner locations.

How could this fit your current goals and plans?

This program offers a structured pathway to earn an Engineering Doctorate while gaining valuable, applied experience at the intersection of artificial intelligence and healthcare. It serves as an excellent stepping stone for a career in medical technology, clinical research, or health-tech innovation without requiring an immediate commitment to a traditional PhD track.

Our take

Candidates with a background in engineering or data science who possess strong Dutch language skills and a passion for healthcare technology should seriously consider applying. Those lacking fluency in Dutch or unable to commit to a two-year hybrid academic and clinical placement should look for other opportunities.
