Our Take on This Opportunity

This section reflects Open Opportunities’ own analysis of the opportunity from an applicant’s perspective.

You may be a strong fit if…

  • Professionals with a background in forestry or environmental management who have experience managing GEF-funded or similar international development projects.
  • Candidates who possess strong administrative and financial management skills, particularly in the context of UN or international NGO procedures.
  • Individuals comfortable with both high-level strategic coordination and hands-on field supervision across multiple project sites.

What should you think carefully about?

  • This is a fixed-term, one-year contract, which may not offer long-term stability beyond the project duration.
  • The role requires frequent travel to specific wilayas in Algeria, which should be factored into your availability and work-life balance.
  • Fluency in both French and Arabic is a strict requirement for effective communication with national stakeholders.

How could this fit your current goals and plans?

This role is an excellent opportunity for mid-career environmental professionals to gain significant experience within the UN system while leading a tangible, large-scale conservation project. It is well-suited for those looking to bridge the gap between technical environmental expertise and project management, providing a platform to influence national forest policy and sustainable development in Algeria.

Our take

This position is highly recommended for experienced project managers with a background in environmental science who are looking to make a direct impact on forest restoration. It is less suitable for those without the required language proficiency or those seeking permanent, non-project-based employment.
