About the opportunity

RESOLV is a world-leading interdisciplinary research project in Solvation Science awarded as a Cluster of Excellence by the German Excellence Strategy. More than 200 scientists at six institutions in the Ruhr area investigate how solvents control, mediate, and regulate chemical reactions. Research focuses on charge and electron transfer, solvent design, and tuning stability and homogeneity. The cluster offers a structured postdoctoral training platform with individual research training and career coaching in academia, industry, and entrepreneurship. Successful candidates will contribute to developing guidelines for solvent selection and design to maximize yield and selectivity while minimizing environmental impact, integrating lab automation and AI-assisted methods.

Our Take on This Opportunity

This section reflects Open Opportunities’ own analysis of the opportunity from an applicant’s perspective.

You may be a strong fit if…

  • Scientists with expertise in synthesis, spectroscopy, or sustainable reaction engineering.
  • Researchers interested in AI-assisted methods and lab automation for solvent design.
  • Candidates looking for an interdisciplinary environment focused on environmental impact.

What should you think carefully about?

  • Two-year fixed-term contract with no reimbursement for interview travel costs.
  • Requires on-site work at Ruhr University Bochum.
  • Requires a hosting agreement from a Principal Investigator before submission.

How could this fit your current goals and plans?

This position provides a platform to work on cutting-edge solvent design, integrating modern computational and experimental techniques. It is an ideal fit for a researcher looking to bridge the gap between fundamental chemistry and sustainable industrial application.

Our take

Researchers with a strong background in synthesis or reaction engineering should apply; those seeking long-term tenure or unable to relocate to Germany will find this less suitable.
