About the opportunity

DTU Construct is seeking a highly motivated Postdoctoral Researcher to develop a Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) model capturing the behavior of thermoplastic matrix and continuous fibers during extrusion-based 3D printing. In this role, you will combine process modelling with fiber-matrix interaction analysis to link process parameters to fiber architecture and interfacial quality. Working within the EU-funded ASPIRE project on large-scale additive manufacturing of lightweight EV battery packs, you will help enable digitally guided optimization of continuous-fiber 3D printing. Research focuses on digital technologies such as additive manufacturing/3D printing, numerical modelling, artificial intelligence, automation and robotics, digital twins, and smart materials.

Salary and benefits

  • Appointment based on the collective agreement with the Danish Confederation of Professional Associations
  • Supplements can be negotiated in accordance with DTU's salary structure for scientific staff
  • Employment period of 2 years and 8 months in a leading international technical university environment

Who can apply?

  • Hold a PhD degree (or equivalent) as a formal qualification
  • Open and creative mindset with the ability to think across disciplines, combining computational fluid dynamics, materials science, and digital fabrication
  • Solid background in computational fluid dynamics, numerical modelling, or multiphase/coupled flow simulation, ideally applied to polymer processing or additive manufacturing
  • Strong hands-on experience with OpenFOAM and comfort developing, extending, or coupling custom solvers
  • Experience with coupled or multiphysics simulation, e.g. linking CFD with a structural/FEM solver (such as CalculiX) to resolve fiber behavior within a flow field

Required documents

  • Application (cover letter)
  • CV
  • Academic Diplomas (MSc/PhD in English)
  • List of publications

When to apply

  • Application deadline is 25 September 2026 (23:59 Danish time)
  • Starting date is 1 November 2026 (or according to mutual agreement)

How to apply

  • Open the online application link by selecting 'Apply now'
  • Fill out the online application form
  • Attach all required application materials in English combined into a single PDF file

Additional information

  • The position is part of the EU-funded ASPIRE project on large-scale additive manufacturing of lightweight EV battery packs.
  • As DTU works with research in critical technology subject to special rules for security and export control, open-source background checks may be conducted on qualified candidates.

Our Take on This Opportunity

This section reflects Open Opportunities’ own analysis of the opportunity from an applicant’s perspective.

You may be a strong fit if…

  • PhD holders with a strong background in computational fluid dynamics and numerical modelling.
  • Researchers with hands-on experience developing or extending custom solvers in OpenFOAM.
  • Experts in coupling CFD with structural or FEM solvers to resolve fiber behavior.

What should you think carefully about?

  • The position is a fixed-term appointment for 2 years and 8 months based in Kgs. Lyngby, Denmark.
  • Candidates may undergo open-source background checks due to the university's research in critical technology.

How could this fit your current goals and plans?

This role is ideal for a researcher aiming to advance the manufacturing of lightweight EV battery packs through high-fidelity CFD modelling. It provides a two-year plus opportunity to work within the EU-funded ASPIRE project at a leading international technical university.

Our take

PhD holders with deep expertise in OpenFOAM and multiphase flow simulation for 3D printing should apply, while those without custom solver development experience may be less suitable.
