About the opportunity
This PhD position (DC7) is part of the Marie Skłodowska-Curie Doctoral Network E-CoRe, a project focused on advancing reversible computing to improve energy efficiency in digital systems. The successful candidate will conduct research at the Programming Languages and Theory of Computation (PLTC) Section of the Department of Computer Science (DIKU). The work involves studying translation techniques for high-level reversible languages, designing optimization methods, and implementing prototype compilers. The role includes international mobility through planned secondments at Technische Hochschule Mittelhessen in Germany and the University of Manchester in the UK. The candidate will join an international research environment and contribute to the E-CoRe network’s training program.

Our Take on This Opportunity
This section reflects Open Opportunities’ own analysis of the opportunity from an applicant’s perspective.
You may be a strong fit if…
- Candidates with a strong academic background in compiler design, program analysis, or language semantics.
- Researchers interested in the intersection of sustainable computing, energy efficiency, and theoretical computer science.
- Applicants seeking an international doctoral experience with structured mobility and secondments at European partner institutions.
What should you think carefully about?
- Strict mobility rule: You must not have lived or worked in Denmark for more than 12 months during the 3 years prior to the start date.
- The role requires a willingness to travel for international secondments as part of the MSCA network requirements.
- The position is a fixed-term 3-year contract; applicants should ensure this aligns with their long-term career planning.
How could this fit your current goals and plans?
This position is an excellent opportunity for a researcher aiming to specialize in the emerging field of reversible computing. By joining an MSCA Doctoral Network, the candidate gains not only a PhD degree but also access to a structured international training program, professional networking, and exposure to both academic and industry-relevant research environments in Europe.
Our take
This is a highly suitable opportunity for early-career researchers in computer science who meet the specific MSCA mobility criteria and have a strong interest in programming language theory. It is less suitable for those who have already spent significant time in Denmark recently or who are looking for a permanent position rather than a fixed-term doctoral fellowship.
