Our Take on This Opportunity

This section reflects Open Opportunities’ own analysis of the opportunity from an applicant’s perspective.

You may be a strong fit if…

  • An ideal opportunity for early-career researchers holding a master's degree in biology with a strong interest in Arctic ecology, climate change, and biogeochemical cycling.
  • Well-suited for candidates eager to combine field campaigns in Greenland with computational data analysis and cross-institutional collaboration.
  • Provides comprehensive financial support and structured training including teaching experience and an international research stay.

What should you think carefully about?

  • Requires a fixed 3-year commitment and willingness to participate in demanding field campaigns in South Greenland.
  • Candidates must be prepared to relocate to Denmark for the duration of the employment and complete an external research stay abroad.
  • Shortlisting is applied, meaning only selected applicants will proceed to the full assessment stage.

How could this fit your current goals and plans?

This fully funded PhD position serves as a robust launching pad for an academic or scientific career in environmental science, Arctic research, or ecology. It offers structured doctoral training, international mobility, and hands-on interdisciplinary fieldwork that aligns well with goals of producing high-impact peer-reviewed research and building a global professional network.

Our take

Master's graduates in biology with strong data analysis capabilities and an interest in polar ecosystems should seriously consider applying. Candidates unable to commit to fieldwork in Greenland or relocation to Denmark will find the position less suitable.
