About the opportunity

The Department of Plant and Environmental Sciences at the University of Copenhagen invites applicants for a PhD fellowship in foliar application of nanozymes. The position is part of the research project ‘Biocompatible nanozymes with anti-oxidative properties to increase crop resilience in a changing climate’, funded by The Independent Research Fund Denmark. The successful candidate will investigate the mechanisms by which biocompatible Fe-, Mn- and Zn-based nanozymes are taken up, transported, and function within plants under drought stress, utilizing advanced imaging techniques such as LA-ICP-TOF-MS, TEM-EDX, and confocal microscopy. The expected start date is January 1st, 2027, or as soon as possible thereafter.

Our Take on This Opportunity

This section reflects Open Opportunities’ own analysis of the opportunity from an applicant’s perspective.

You may be a strong fit if…

  • An ideal match for master's graduates in plant science, agricultural science, or biotechnology with a strong foundational interest in nanotechnology and advanced imaging.
  • Well-suited for researchers eager to work on climate adaptation and crop resilience using cutting-edge analytical tools like LA-ICP-TOF-MS and confocal microscopy.
  • Great fit for candidates seeking a structured, fully funded three-year European PhD program with strong mentorship in an internationally recognized research lab.

What should you think carefully about?

  • Applicants must possess or be very close to completing a qualifying Master's degree equivalent to a Danish graduate degree.
  • Relocation to Copenhagen, Denmark, is required for the duration of the 3-year appointment.
  • The application deadline is strict (23 October 2026), leaving a narrow window for assembling transcripts, CVs, and motivation letters.

How could this fit your current goals and plans?

This fully funded PhD fellowship offers an exceptional stepping stone for individuals aiming for an academic career in plant biology, analytical chemistry, or agricultural innovation, while also providing rigorous interdisciplinary technical skills valued in high-tech agricultural and biotech industries.

Our take

Highly recommended for aspiring plant scientists and biotechnologists with a background in advanced imaging who wish to pursue a rigorous funded PhD in an international European setting. Those without a relevant master's degree or the ability to relocate should not apply.
