Experts admitted to the roster will provide high-level technical advice, policy guidance, and support for project implementation across various thematic areas, including climate change, renewable energy, green finance, biodiversity, and circular economy. Inclusion in the roster does not guarantee active assignments or financial commitments; engagements are on-demand, and remuneration is based on services rendered. The roster is valid for one year, with the possibility of extension.

Our Take on This Opportunity

This section reflects Open Opportunities’ own analysis of the opportunity from an applicant’s perspective.

You may be a strong fit if…

  • Seasoned professionals with at least 10 years of experience in climate, energy, or environmental policy
  • Candidates with a strong academic background and a proven track record of peer-reviewed publications in relevant fields
  • Experts who possess both high-level technical knowledge and the ability to navigate complex government and international stakeholder landscapes

What should you think carefully about?

  • This is a roster, not a guaranteed job; there is no immediate salary or active assignment upon selection
  • The role requires fluency in both English and Mandarin Chinese, which is a strict requirement for effective policy dialogue in the China context
  • The work is on-demand, meaning it may be best suited for independent consultants or experts who can balance ad-hoc project requests with other commitments

How could this fit your current goals and plans?

This roster is an excellent opportunity for experts looking to influence high-level policy and contribute to sustainable development goals in China. It provides a platform to engage with a global network, build institutional partnerships, and apply technical expertise to real-world development challenges without requiring a full-time, permanent commitment.

Our take

This opportunity is highly suitable for established technical experts and researchers who want to contribute to UNDP's mission in China on a flexible, project-based basis. It is less suitable for those seeking immediate, full-time employment or those who do not meet the specific language and publication requirements.
