Our Take on This Opportunity
This section reflects Open Opportunities’ own analysis of the opportunity from an applicant’s perspective.
You may be a strong fit if…
- Established or mid-career international scholars in political science, security studies, military sciences, water engineering, or public governance seeking dedicated funded research time in Central Europe
- Academics enthusiastic about delivering English-taught lectures to undergraduate and postgraduate students while collaborating with Hungarian faculty
- Researchers looking to build lasting institutional links and expand international networks within a specialized public service university
What should you think carefully about?
- Selected fellows must be physically resident in Budapest and commit full-time to the program, preventing concurrent on-site duties at their home institutions
- Health insurance, housing, and personal daily living costs are not arranged directly by the university and must be covered from the fellow's monthly agency fee
- Junior researchers with fewer than six years in full-time academia face an extra document barrier requiring a formal letter of reference
How could this fit your current goals and plans?
This short-term visiting fellowship offers a strong avenue for international researchers seeking focused time for writing, archival study, or collaborative research without committing to a permanent career relocation. The combination of teaching guest lectures and producing joint scholarly work can substantially broaden an academic's international visibility and publication portfolio while expanding cross-border research links in Central and Eastern Europe.
Our take
Scholars with recognized publication records and teaching experience across LUPS priority fields should seriously consider applying for this well-funded 1 to 3-month engagement in Budapest. It is less suitable for individuals unable to take leave from home-institution commitments or those seeking non-teaching, fully remote research grants.
