Successful candidates will be hosted at one of CRASSH’s participating centres: the Centre for Geopolitics, Cambridge Digital Humanities, or the Centre for Pandemic Risk Management. The Isaac Newton Trust provides matching funds for successful applications to be held at Cambridge starting between 1 September 2027 and 1 May 2028, subject to an internal selection process.

Our Take on This Opportunity
This section reflects Open Opportunities’ own analysis of the opportunity from an applicant’s perspective.
You may be a strong fit if…
- Early career researchers with a doctorate who have not yet held a permanent academic position.
- Scholars seeking an interdisciplinary environment at a leading UK institution.
- Researchers whose work aligns with the Centre for Geopolitics, Cambridge Digital Humanities, or the Centre for Pandemic Risk Management.
What should you think carefully about?
- Strict eligibility regarding the timing of your doctorate completion and previous postdoctoral experience.
- Must meet specific UK academic employment or degree criteria to be eligible.
- The internal selection process is highly competitive and requires identifying a mentor well in advance.
How could this fit your current goals and plans?
This fellowship is an excellent vehicle for launching an independent research career within a prestigious, supportive environment. It provides the necessary funding and institutional backing to focus entirely on your research agenda for a multi-year period, making it a strategic move for those aiming to build a strong publication record before securing a permanent faculty role.
Our take
This is a premier opportunity for high-potential early career researchers who meet the specific UK-based eligibility criteria. It is less suitable for those who have already held permanent academic posts or who do not meet the strict doctoral submission timeline requirements.
