About the opportunity
The HENNGE Global Internship Program (GIP) is an intensive 4- to 6-week on-site software engineering training program held at HENNGE headquarters in Tokyo, Japan. Tailored for students and early-career software engineers, the program is conducted entirely in English without Japanese language requirements. Participants choose between the Full-Stack Pathway (working with Python, Go, TypeScript, and AWS) and the Front-End Pathway (focusing on TypeScript, React or Vue, and DevOps). Interns participate in hands-on cloud development and architectural problem-solving under direct engineering mentorship, with outstanding participants eligible for full-time career offers in Japan.
Funding and benefits
- Monthly living subsidy
- Round-trip airfares to and from Tokyo
- Pre-arrival support and visa guidance
- Medical insurance coverage (for interns residing outside Japan)
- Japanese mobile device with mobile data service
- Company luncheons, monthly engineering technical sessions, and staff social gatherings
- Participation in Japanese cultural events
- Potential full-time software engineering employment offer upon completion

Our Take on This Opportunity
This section reflects Open Opportunities’ own analysis of the opportunity from an applicant’s perspective.
You may be a strong fit if…
- Undergraduate upperclassmen and early-career developers who want practical experience building full-stack cloud applications or modern front-end systems with AWS.
- Software engineers aiming to start an international career in Tokyo within an English-speaking engineering team.
- Developers who prioritize foundational software engineering, code quality, and peer mentorship over automated AI-assisted code generation.
What should you think carefully about?
- Requires on-site relocation to Tokyo for 4 to 6 weeks with standard full-time business hours (10:00 AM – 7:00 PM JST).
- While airfare, medical coverage, and a monthly subsidy are provided, the program does not pay a base salary.
- Admissions operate strictly on a first-come, first-served basis per batch, making early application submission critical.
How could this fit your current goals and plans?
This internship serves as an accelerated bridge for students and recent graduates looking to experience Tokyo's tech ecosystem without needing Japanese fluency. It aligns well with immediate goals of gaining international software development experience, mastering cloud deployment and modern web architectures, and securing a direct pipeline to full-time post-graduate employment in Japan.
Our take
An outstanding, fully subsidized opportunity for junior software engineers and graduating students seeking high-quality mentorship and a fast track to tech employment in Tokyo; less suitable for experienced professionals or those unable to commit to on-site weekday hours in Japan.
