About the opportunity

The World Food Programme (WFP), in partnership with the Adaptation Fund, has launched the third edition of the Adaptation Fund Climate Innovation Accelerator (AFCIA) in the Latin America and the Caribbean region. The programme aims to identify, support, and scale innovative solutions that strengthen resilience, improve food security, and help vulnerable communities adapt to climate change. The innovation challenge looks for both low- and high-tech solutions specifically tailored to meet distinct climate adaptation challenges in the Dominican Republic, El Salvador, and Peru. Selected applicants will join an innovation bootcamp in January 2027 and have the opportunity to receive funding and participate in a nine-month sprint programme.

Funding and benefits

  • Participation in an innovation bootcamp in January 2027 for selected teams
  • Opportunity to receive funding and technical support through a nine-month sprint programme

Our Take on This Opportunity

This section reflects Open Opportunities’ own analysis of the opportunity from an applicant’s perspective.

You may be a strong fit if…

  • Established legal entities with a permanent presence in the Dominican Republic, El Salvador, or Peru.
  • Organizations with innovations already at the seed stage or beyond.
  • Teams with a clear pathway to scaling their climate adaptation solutions.

What should you think carefully about?

  • The application process is strictly in English, which may be a barrier for some local partners.
  • Selected teams must be available for an innovation bootcamp in January 2027.
  • Success depends on the ability to demonstrate a clear implementation plan for a nine-month sprint.

How could this fit your current goals and plans?

This accelerator is a prime goal for organizations looking to scale climate-resilient innovations. It offers not just funding, but technical support and networking opportunities to integrate solutions into broader humanitarian ecosystems.

Our take

Organizations with mature, scalable climate solutions in the target countries should apply. It is less suitable for early-stage ideas or entities without an existing operational footprint in the region.
