About the opportunity

We are looking for a postdoc for a 4-year position starting 1 December 2026 (or soon thereafter) in the Antibody Technologies Group at DTU Bioengineering, led by Professor & Head of Section Andreas Hougaard Laustsen-Kiel. In this project, you will work at the interface of protein engineering and toxin biology, developing antibodies, nanobodies, and binding proteins with condition-dependent activity. You will combine experimental discovery approaches with data-driven methods and collaborate with leading international partners, such as the University of Porto and the Scripps Research Institute. The position is part of the Villum Foundation funded project, PROTÆCT: Precision Regulation Of Toxin Activity through Environmentally-Controlled Targeting, which aims to uncover how protein-based toxins can be controlled using binding proteins that respond to environmental cues like pH and metal ions.

Salary and benefits

  • Appointment based on the collective agreement with the Danish Confederation of Professional Associations with a salary and allowance agreed upon with the relevant union.
  • A 4-year full-time postdoc position.
  • Opportunity to work in a leading technical university with strong academic and industrial connections, international environment, and focus on academic excellence.

Who can apply?

  • Hold a PhD in Computer Science, Machine Learning, Artificial Intelligence, Computational Biology, or a closely related field.
  • Have strong theoretical and practical experience in deep learning, with hands-on experience developing generative models.
  • Highly proficient in Python, PyTorch, and/or JAX.
  • Experience training large-scale neural networks on HPC or GPU clusters.
  • Experience with representation learning and sequence or structural modeling, alongside a strong publication record in relevant AI/ML venues or interdisciplinary journals.

Required documents

  • Application (cover letter)
  • CV
  • Academic Diplomas (MSc/PhD – in English)
  • List of publications

When to apply

  • Applications must be submitted no later than 31 August 2026 (23:59 Danish time).

How to apply

  • Open the online application link 'Apply now'.
  • Fill out the online application form.
  • Attach all required materials in English combined into one PDF file.

Additional information

  • The starting date is 1 December 2026 or according to mutual agreement.
  • The position is located at DTU Lyngby Campus in Kgs. Lyngby, Denmark.
  • As DTU works with research in critical technology subject to special rules for security and export control, open-source background checks may be conducted on qualified candidates.

Our Take on This Opportunity

This section reflects Open Opportunities’ own analysis of the opportunity from an applicant’s perspective.

You may be a strong fit if…

  • PhD in Computer Science, Machine Learning, or Computational Biology
  • Hands-on experience with generative models and large-scale neural networks
  • Proficiency in Python, PyTorch, or JAX

What should you think carefully about?

  • Four-year commitment starting December 2026
  • Requires on-site presence at DTU Lyngby Campus
  • Subject to security and export control background checks

How could this fit your current goals and plans?

This role is ideal for a computational scientist looking to apply deep learning to protein engineering and toxin biology within an interdisciplinary, well-funded project.

Our take

Candidates with a strong AI/ML background and an interest in biological applications should apply; those seeking purely theoretical AI research may find the experimental focus less suitable.
