About the opportunity
The Commonwealth Startup Fellowship (CSF) is a six-month programme designed to fuel high-potential startups through intensive in-person and online learning. You’ll gain essential skills, benefit from tailored coaching, and get access to a powerful global network to help you overcome barriers and scale up your business. The programme includes a fully funded two-week bootcamp in Accra, Ghana, plus ongoing online support with business coaching, expert-led sessions, and valuable peer connections. One founder from each selected team will participate in-person, while co-founders and team members can access the remote portion, connecting with global mentors and industry experts from across the Commonwealth. In addition to training and mentorship, participating teams can apply for financial support through the Fellows Fund. Each startup may apply for up to £2,000 as an equity-free grant to cover business-related expenses and support the development and growth of their venture. Select participants will be invited to a Capstone in London, UK, where they will have the chance to pitch to investors and industry leaders.

Our Take on This Opportunity
This section reflects Open Opportunities’ own analysis of the opportunity from an applicant’s perspective.
You may be a strong fit if…
- Founders of startups with at least 12 months of operational history and proven customer demand.
- Entrepreneurs from eligible low- or middle-income Commonwealth countries seeking to scale their ventures.
- Leaders looking for intensive mentorship, global networking, and potential equity-free grant funding.
What should you think carefully about?
- The program requires in-person attendance in Accra, Ghana, for a two-week bootcamp in early 2027.
- Only one founder per team is funded for the residential bootcamp, though others can participate remotely.
- Selected participants must be available for a potential follow-up Capstone event in London in May 2027.
How could this fit your current goals and plans?
This fellowship is ideal for founders aiming to bridge the gap between a pilot-stage product and a scalable, sustainable business. By combining structured coaching with access to a global network and potential grant funding, it provides the resources necessary to refine business models and prepare for investor pitches at the London Capstone.
Our take
This is a high-value opportunity for established startup founders in eligible Commonwealth countries who are ready for intensive growth support. It is less suitable for those in the very early idea or prototype phase.
