About the opportunity

The Axel Adler Scholarship is the University of Gothenburg’s primary scholarship scheme for international, tuition fee-paying students admitted to campus-based bachelor’s or master’s degree programs. Financed jointly by the Adlerbertska Scholarship Foundation, the Adlerbertska Grant Foundation, and the Swedish Council for Higher Education (UHR), the award grants a full tuition fee waiver for the duration of the chosen study program. Recipients are selected primarily on their qualifications and suitability, evaluated through a CV and motivation letter. Additionally, students admitted to qualified sustainability-focused master’s programs are considered for the specialized Axel Adler Scholarship for Sustainability.

Our Take on This Opportunity

This section reflects Open Opportunities’ own analysis of the opportunity from an applicant’s perspective.

You may be a strong fit if…

  • International fee-paying students who have prioritized the University of Gothenburg as their undisputed first-choice institution for Swedish university admissions
  • Applicants with strong academic preparation and clear, focused professional profiles who can concisely communicate their motivation within the 3,000-character limit
  • Prospective master's students pursuing specialized sustainability disciplines eligible for the dedicated Axel Adler Sustainability track

What should you think carefully about?

  • The scholarship provides only a tuition fee waiver; recipients must independently finance living expenses, housing, and travel in Gothenburg
  • Selection requires ranking Gothenburg as your first priority on University Admissions, eliminating flexibility if you prefer other Swedish universities
  • Undergraduate eligibility is limited strictly to seven specific bachelor's degree programs

How could this fit your current goals and plans?

This scholarship fits prospective international students seeking a high-quality Scandinavian university degree without incurring tuition debt, provided they have existing savings, external funding, or familial support to finance Swedish living expenses.

Our take

Fee-paying applicants targeting eligible undergraduate or master's degrees at Gothenburg should prioritize this program, while applicants who require a full living stipend or travel allowance will need to secure supplementary external funding.
