Our Take on This Opportunity
This section reflects Open Opportunities’ own analysis of the opportunity from an applicant’s perspective.
You may be a strong fit if…
- Students or recent graduates with academic backgrounds in data analysis, international development, or social sciences who want to gain hands-on experience in humanitarian M&E
- Individuals with demonstrated interest in food security, climate resilience, or disaster risk management who are eager to learn digital data collection and visualization tools
- Candidates who possess strong interpersonal skills and a commitment to working in a diverse, multicultural humanitarian environment
What should you think carefully about?
- The internship is a fixed 6-month, full-time commitment in Barbados; applicants must be able to manage their own relocation and living arrangements as these are not covered by the stipend
- The stipend is intended to support the intern but does not cover all living expenses, so candidates should plan their finances accordingly
- The role is highly administrative and data-focused, requiring proficiency in MS Office and an interest in technical tools like Power BI or KoboToolbox
How could this fit your current goals and plans?
This internship is an excellent entry point for those looking to build a career in the humanitarian sector or international development. It provides a structured learning environment where you can apply theoretical knowledge of research and data analysis to real-world humanitarian challenges. Whether you are a student seeking to fulfill degree requirements or a recent graduate looking to bridge the gap between academia and professional practice, this role offers significant exposure to the operations of a major UN agency.
Our take
This is a highly suitable opportunity for students or recent graduates with a strong interest in data-driven humanitarian work who are available for a 6-month stay in Barbados. It is less suitable for those seeking long-term employment or those unable to secure their own housing and living costs in the region.
